Amy Arrendell is the owner of Waterfall Mountain Retreat Center. She raised her children at Waterfall Mountain, first in an original cabin with kerosene lamps, wood cook and heating stoves, cold only running water and an outhouse, and then at the modern home that is now the Retreat Center.

Amy has experience with organic gardening, energy healing, home schooling, Appalachian Trail hiking, earth camp counseling, public information writing, yoga and the healing practices of original people. She is a Shaklee distributor to encourage products that support "cool planet" instead of global warming. Amy is an instructor for the Educational Kinesiology Foundation, teaching Brain Gym®, Brain Gym® for Educators and Brain Organization Profiles.

Amy’s own healing process supported by the land and the elements of Nature are her assurance in offering the gifts of the natural world for others’ benefit at Waterfall Mountain.

Douglas Munroe is the original owner and developer of Waterfall Mountain. Doug brings his considerable skills and absolute love for the land to his job as steward of the land and master gardener at Waterfall Mountain Retreat Center.

Doug is a qualified guide for the Nature Conservancy hikes on Bluff Mountain in Ashe County. Although relatively small in size, Bluff Mountain is one of the most ecologically significant sites in the Southeast, as the mountain's unique geology, hydrology and ecology intertwine to create an unusual mixture of habitats and wildlife. The mountain is distinguished by over 11 natural communities that provide a fertile home for over 450 species of plants. Since the mid-1800s, naturalists have explored this ancient landscape, cataloging its many unique natural communities and species.

Bluff Mountain hikes are conducted on Saturdays and Sundays by reservation only. The cost is $10 per person or a minimum of $50. Takes 3-4 hours, bring a lunch.

Doug also cooks a fabulous trout dinner on the open fire on his land at Waterfall Mountain for guests. The menu includes trout caught that day from his pond and garden vegetables picked fresh, all cooked on the open fire at the "sunset spot" in his high field with spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains of NC, TN, and VA. $12.50 per person, $100 minimum.

To plan a hike or a trout dinner, call Doug Munroe at 336-385-6507.

Cynthia Calderwood is director of KIDZ Camps at Waterfall Mountain Retreat Center. She is a graduate of University of Michigan and earned a Masters in ESL. As a collaborative educator, she has spent the most recent episode of her life embracing diversity and mentoring children in her IMAGINE program.

Cindy shares the village of community through Circle and ritual cyclic celebrations. Affiliation with Omega Institute supported her integration of mind/body, masculine/feminine, spirit/soul with teaching yoga and dancing the rhythms of Creation. She invites children of all ages to unearth capricious whims. Presently she is seeking an enlivened tryst with the wee folk in Nature.
